WHAT IS IT?

The Childhood and Environmental Pollutants Project (PIPA/UFRJ) aims to investigate the effects of environmental pollutants on maternal and child health from gestation up to 4 years of age.

It is coordinated by Instituto de Estudos em Saúde Coletiva da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IESC/UFRJ) and it is being carried out in Maternidade Escola (ME) da UFRJ, in partnership with Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ), and with the Instituto Evandro Chagas (IEC).

The project is pioneering in Brazil, having been approved by the Research Ethics Committees of ME/UFRJ (opinion number: 5.415.164) and FIOCRUZ (opinion number: 2.121.397).

The PIPA/UFRJ is a prospective cohort study focusing on the effects on children's health of exposure to chemical substances (specifically metals, pesticides, and plasticizers) dispersed in the environment to which children are exposed from conception.
