Between September 2017 and August 2018, the PIPA UFRJ Project team conducted a pilot study at the Maternity School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (ME/UFRJ). This was the embryo of the PIPA UFRJ Project. which we are currently developing. The objective of the pilot study was to investigate the individual and combined effects of environmental pollutants, as well as the interactions between exposures and the sociocultural environment and genetic patterns, on child development and health.

The environmental pollutants studied were metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium) and pyrethroid pesticides.
