Volney de Magalhaes Camara
Full Professor at the Institute of Collective Health Studies of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IESC/UFRJ).
He graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1974);
Master’s degree in Occupational Medicine from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London in 1977;
PhD in Public Health from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in 1986 and Post-Doctorate in Environmental Health from ECO/PAHO in 1993.
Consultant for the Pan American Health Organization in Washington, USA and the Evandro Chagas Institute and Ministry of Health in Brazil.
Professor of the Postgraduate Course in Public Health at IESC/UFRJ and of the Postgraduate Program in Epidemiology and Health Surveillance at the Evandro Chagas Institute.
Territorial Director in Brazil of the Revista de Salud Ambiental (Madrid, Spain).
He carries out research in Environmental Health, working mainly on issues related to the epidemiology of the effects of chemical pollutants, especially mercury.
PROF. DR. ARMANDO MEYER
Armando Meyer
She has a degree in Biological Sciences from Gama Filho University (1990-1994), a master’s degree (1996-1998) and a doctorate (2001-2005) in Public Health from the National School of Public Health – ENSP/Fiocruz, with 2 years (2002-2004) of sandwich studies at the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, Duke University, North Carolina, USA.
Participated in a training program in environmental and occupational health at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (2009-2011), New York, USA.
He completed a post-doctoral internship at the Department of Epidemiology, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences – NIEHS/NIH (2015-2016), where he worked as a visiting researcher on the longitudinal Agricultural Health Study.
He was a visiting researcher at the MRC Center for Environment and Health, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, United Kingdom, between December/2022 and November/2023.
He has been a professor of environmental and occupational health at the Institute of Collective Health Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 2006.
He received a scholarship from FAPERJ’s Young Scientist of Our State program (2009-2012). He has been a FAPERJ Scientist of Our State since 2021.
He has been awarded a CNPQ level 2 research productivity grant since 2013. He was Vice-Director of the Institute of Collective Health Studies – IESC/UFRJ between 2010 and 2011.
He was Director of the Institute of Collective Health Studies – IESC/UFRJ from 2011 to 2014.
He was Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Collective Health at UFRJ (M/D, level 5) between 2017 and 2022.
